Paid Audiology 4th year extern for 2026/2027 Season
Our audiologists love working at Better Hearing and Audiology. Our patients love us too. (Check out our 380+ 5-star Google reviews) We are so popular we would like a 4th year student to join us in scenic, southeast Idaho to serve in our Idaho Falls and Rexburg clinics. We have hosted 4th years the last two years and it has been a great experience for our students and us.
Idaho is one of the fastest-growing states in the nation. Idaho Falls is the commercial hub for southeast Idaho. It has been rated as the “Best Performing Small City” 3 out of the last 4 years by the Milken Institute. The beautiful Snake River cuts through our town and is surrounded by a 10-mile-long hiking loop. Rexburg is 30 minutes to the north. We are within 2 hours of Yellowstone National Park and Jackson Hole Wyoming. Our surrounding country is full of fishing, boating, hiking, hunting, and skiing opportunities.
Our local economy is built on both science and agriculture. The Idaho National Laboratory sits about an hour to the west of Idaho Falls bringing in scientists and engineers that help create a stable, well-funded population. Idaho State University is one hour to the south. Better Hearing and Audiology frequently serves as a practicum site for their audiology students. Rexburg is home to BYU-Idaho, a flourishing private college. Both communities are surrounded by potato and grain fields.
Better Hearing and Audiology provides diagnostic, dispensing, tinnitus, and ABR services for patients ages 0-115. Opportunities to develop a balance program are available for the right candidate. We serve all southeast Idaho and into Montana and Wyoming. 4th year students will work at both locations. Au.D 4th year externships will be coordinated with your university and the State of Idaho requirements. There may be opportunity for full time employment after graduation.
Following best practices is an integral part of all we do which means doing Real Ear on every hearing aid treatment. Getting the best technology match for each patient means we work with all major hearing aid manufacturers. It is the provider who decides what is the best prescription match for each patient. Taking care of our whole community means we work with the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, Vocational Rehab, and many insurance companies. Our motto is “Better Hearing–Better Relationships”. We truly believe better hearing for our patients means they are enabled to have better relationships with their loved ones and community members which is why what we do and how we do it is so important.
Why should you want to work with us? One of our core values is everyone leaves better than when they came, this includes our staff and students. We are willing to invest in you! We have sent providers (including 4th year externs) to trainings for tinnitus, dementia, auditory processing etc. Last year, our providers as a group traveled to Dallas to learn about the brain. Our providers held a brain and learned about the auditory pathways and tinnitus generation sites. Many of our audiologists have picked an area and become experts and adjunct staff to universities, etc. Dr. Parsons has coauthored a book about hearing loss. Some of our professional staffs’ 3 year goals is to move to 3 days a week for better work-life balance (Moms and Grandmas). We are actively trying to make that possible.
4th year extern benefits: $19/hour, 80 hours vacation/year, 30 hours sick leave/year, 6 paid holidays/year, and paid education opportunities. $100/month medical stipend. Moving expense reimbursement up to $2000. A family-friendly area to live in and great staff to work with.
